How to Teach Students to Better Interpret Literary Works to Construct Thematic Statements

The Fulbright Honors College has been instrumental in molding me into the person I am today. Without the connections I have made with the faculty and students during my time here, I would not have had the courage to pursue my dreams as a physician, nor experience the love and laughter that I will hold in my heart for years to come. My deepest thanks to those who believed in us, and, to those who are almost there, keep going! You are stronger than you think you are, and it will all be worth it soon!

I have loved my time in Fulbright Honors. I have gained valuable research experience working on my honors thesis which will undoubtedly help me in graduate school, and have had so much fun, from rocking my Harry Potter trivia knowledge at the Honors College School of Witchcraft and Wizardry Tournament to witnessing a labrador dressed as a pig win the costume portion of the Annual Honors College dog show. These experiences, both academic and social, have aided me in becoming a better student while allowing me to enjoy myself along the way. Thank you!!

Working on my honors thesis helped me find my passion for research, it allowed me to work with amazing people, present my research in places I’ve never been, and grow my confidence as a person and as a researcher. This experience has shaped my future trajectory and I could not be more excited to take this next step into my life. As a first-generation Latina from small-town Arkansas, pursing a PhD in Texas at 21 is a dream come true. I could not have achieved it without the support, guidance, and expertise from faculty and staff at the University of Arkansas. While my senior year didn’t end exactly how I was expecting it to, I cherish the time I’ve had here and the friends I’ve made.
