Tower Room Talk Submission Guidelines
Goals of the Blog
The Fulbright College Honors Program was established in 1954, making it the oldest honors program at the University of Arkansas. As the official blog of Fulbright Honors, Tower Room Talk seeks to continue that history of academic excellence by highlighting advice and stories from Fulbright Honors staff, students, faculty, and alumni.
This blog is not designed as a primary resource for students in Fulbright Honors, and is not meant to replace the information found on the Fulbright College Honors Program website. Rather, this blog is a supplemental resource designed for students hoping to make the most of their honors experience!
Submission Guidelines
Topic: Those who are interested in writing for the blog should try to develop pieces based in specific personal experiences and provide our student audience with clear takeaways. Advice pieces are always a great! Student and alumni writers might choose to focus on their experiences with transitioning to college, completing a thesis, preparing for study abroad, or choosing an internship. Faculty and staff contributors are encouraged to keep a more academic focus, emphasizing strategies for student success. If you are unsure if your idea would make a good post for our blog, just drop us a line and ask!
Length: Most blog pieces should be between 500-1,000 words in length, though exceptions will be made depending on the content of each individual piece.
Images: Contributors are highly encouraged to include images in their posts, including a featured image which will be published on the blog’s home page.
File Format: For written works, please submit .doc or .docx files only. Images should be in .png or .jpg format.
Other General Guidelines: Contributors should avoid profanity and make sure their work is carefully edited before they submit.
Submission Process
- Fill Out the “Contact Us” Form. If you are interested in writing for the blog, please use the form on the Contact Us page to let us know! In your message, please include what you are interested in writing about, or if the piece is already completed. If you are wanting to adapt a piece that has been published elsewhere, please include that in the message so that we can include an editorial note.
- We Will Reach Out To You. Once you have submitted the Contact Us form, we will reach out to you as soon as possible. In our response, we will give you a timeline for turning in a complete blog post (usually about a week).
- Turn In Your Blog Post. Email your final blog post to us in .doc or .docx format. If you do not meet the set timeline, we will delay the posting of your piece until a time that is convenient for us.
- Final Edits. Our editorial team will make edits to the piece and email you the final version to be posted on the blog. Once we have your approval, we will post your piece to the blog!
A Note: In addition to our reader-contributors, the Fulbright Honors team will also solicit pieces from students, alumni, and faculty. These submissions will go through a similar editorial process, but may have a slightly different timeline.
